Looking After Your Jewellery
Although jewellery is typically sturdy, it is not indestructible. Care should be taken to avoid damage and scratches. Your jewellery will remain as shiny as the day you received it if you take few simple steps.
Since jewellery can easily be scratched if it comes into contact with other items, I strongly advise storing items separately. Jewellery boxes or special jewellery pouches are ideal for this.
Necklaces, bracelets, and chains should be fastened to prevent tangles; hanging them or carefully wrapping them around cards before storing is a cheap and easy way to keep them from becoming knotted.
Always remove your jewellery during exercise, gardening or any activity which may expose your jewellery to scratches, being knocked or prolonged exposure to water such as swimming or bathing
Lastly, always remove your jewellery before applying creams, sanitiser, perfumes, body and cleaning products as these can cause scratches, colour changes and/or become clogged around gemstones and settings. Your jewellery should be the last thing that you put on.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. Oxidation, or tarnishing is often seen after storing or not wearing a piece for a long time but can also happen with daily use. Your individual chemical makeup, medications and care habits will all have an impact. It doesn’t take much to bring silver back to life; you can clean your jewellery using lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush and finish by polishing with a soft cloth to prevent and revive after the natural process of tarnishing.
Solid Gold
Gold is a relatively soft metal and is easily scratched which reduces the shine. Store it safely away from other pieces to avoid unnecessary scratches. Gold should be kept away from harsh chemicals, such as cleaning and beauty products, to avoid discolouration to the metal.
Polishing cloths work well for gently cleaning karat gold jewellery.
All Angel Creative jewellery is supplied with specialist jewellery cloths, but these can be purchased for a few pounds on the internet or at high street jewellers.
I recommend having your jewellery professionally cleaned, polished and serviced every 12 months to check for any loose gemstones and to keep it looking its best.
